Villainess is founded, owned, and operated by Jessica Thrower, pen name Jessica Carver, who discovered her love of publishing while slushing and assistant editing anthologies in the Triangulation series for Parsec Ink. In 2025, she edited Dark Hearts: the 23rd Annual Triangulation Anthology, which represented women anti-heroes.​
